  1. Approximately 4,784 images represent each unique word in the Quran, aiding in both understanding and memorization.

  2. English translations are limited. The Arabic language is deep and complex, with words containing an ocean of meanings and nuances.

  3. Five distinct Arabic words can translate into the same English word, despite their different meanings and contexts. For example:

  • السَّبِيلُ - the way, path, road; one that is assigned, ex. in the way of Allah (ﷻ); and,

  • الطَّرِيقُ - the way, path, road; being any place of passage; and,

  • الصِّرَاطُ - the path, road; usually used to refer to a specific path taken.

  1. We aimed to capture the nuances and contexts in the images. As you see more Arabic words with similar meanings, the images will become more meaningful in sha Allah.

  2. Some images were created using Sahih Hadith descriptions to preserve classic meanings and details. Modern word interpretations can conflict with an ayah’s true meaning and compromise understanding.

Action Note: Considering the above, please let us know if you come across any images that you find unsettling or unclear.

May Allah (ﷻ) guide us and accept all our efforts!

This image with the chess horses could be more clear and replaced with people of another object as chess isn’t really a good practice on Islam

This image shows “as for” or “different” but it just is unclear as it shows light shining onto a shoe which can be interpreted in a lot of ways. Maybe making this image for another object for example a set of colours and objects and one is different from the rest?

As for this, not the picture but I believe it would be better if “zakariya” does not have the first letter lowercase so that it shows respect to prophet Zakariya (alayhi wassallam)

Assalaamu Alaikum Shayaan,

With regards to the image for ‘rival, equal’, I understand your concerns. We will change it in sha Allah.

With regards to the image for ‘as for’, the idea for the image was that the light is shining on that one shoe meaning: ‘as for’. AI was struggling to produce an image with one shoe being different than the rest, so to go around that we asked it to shine a light on one shoe. AI can be extremely difficult and stubborn sometimes, so we had to get very creative to get the best image we could get. In any case, we’ll give it another try and in sha Allah it works out.

As for your third concern, I will bring it to Areeb’s attention in sha Allah.

Have a wonderful day/evening in sha Allah!

Word translations are from Quran.com

Will improve on them soon iA

Salaamu aleykum wa rahmahtullah wa barakatuh,

In another discussion I saw an issue being mentioned about rainbow colors in AI images. Although I agree with @areeb that it’s really messed up that they hijacked the rainbow, I read that you still wanted to change such images.

I found another one with the word عشر.

Wa Alaikum Assalaam Wa Rahmat Allah Wa Barakatuh Adem,

Thank you brother. The image has been changed and it will reflect in the next app release in sha Allah.

Have a wonderful day/evening in sha Allah!

Salaam, Raghda

Again with these colours,

This image is one which may need to be changed too

This one as well probably as these will be going into schools and I don’t think the teachers will want to see their youth looking at these types of images where there are guns and people on the floor

Also this one as I don’t fully understand what is trying to convey as it doesn’t really relate to those words.

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmat Allah Wa Barakatuh Shayaan,

Jazak Allahu Khair! This image has been updated and will reflect in the next release in sha Allah.

Assalaamu Alaikum, Raghda

Assalaamu Alaikum Shayaan,

Jazak Allahu Khair for bringing this forward and for your feedback and input. In terms of the guns, we agree that it’s best to keep them out of images altogether. The image has been changed and it will reflect in the next update in sha Allah.

With regards to people lying on the floor, it was meant to capture being ‘seized’ by lightning/punishment. This was actually a lot better than many other ideas that could portray being ‘seized/punished’ while maintaining the seriousness and depth of the meaning of the word.

Please keep in mind that it would be almost impossible to capture the meanings and nuances of 4,500+ words without being this detailed in the images. Otherwise, you would essentially see tens of images of the same thing, and words would be largely misrepresented.

Having said the above, we are very aware of not making the images too graphic, and of course, there’s always a difference in perception in what is deemed too graphic.

If teachers decide it’s over the threshold of what’s acceptable for a particular age group, we may need to consider removing the option to view the images for that specific age group altogether.

Otherwise, it is impossible to make the images make sense, and they wouldn’t be beneficial for anyone.

As an example, the Qur’an contains 11+ words that convey the concept of oppression in various forms, and there are even more words with a meaning that ‘leads’ to oppression. So, all of these images have to be created in extreme detail in order to produce images that correctly convey the meaning of one word over the others. For these reasons, the images have to be very detailed and creative, and in many cases the image is essentially ‘acting out’ a scenario.

I thought it would be beneficial to share this information with you, so that you also know that the image process is a very strategic and thought out process.

In sha Allah we will get to a place where they will all be as perfect as they can possibly be!

These images are meant to visually reflect the words, capturing the true essence of Allah’s (ﷻ) message and moving one’s heart.

I pray that we are always able to do the right thing and be beneficial in sha Allah.

Assalaamu Alaikum, Raghda

Assalaamu Alaikum Shayaan,

Regarding the image for ‘to turn away, to avert, to hinder’, what you see is a large thick wall and mountains hindering the path leading to it.

I agree with you that the image is unclear. It has been changed and it will reflect in the next update in sha Allah.

Jazak Allahu Khair for bringing it forward.

Have a wonderful day/evening in sha Allah!

Assalaamu Alaikum, Raghda

Wa Alaykum Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatahu

Thank you for this information. Now I can fully understand how this image generation works and the arduous task of creating these images.

On the topic of images being taken away all together, if there was a function in Kalaam for teachers to make classes and add students via “class codes” then the teachers could either disable images or use them depending on their age. This may be better to be developed a bit later, but it would also benefit both students and teachers learning.

For the image of being “seized” I was thinking that the person on the floor would be the criminal and the others would be the police who carried out the punishment. I was also thinking it would show an image of ‘aad or Thamud being seized by the disasters with the large stone houses the carved to signify who they were. This is just my thinking, but the AI probably has some difficulty with creating such images.

Jazakallahu khayr for addressing these concerns. If I find images which seem to be extremely unclear I will send more here in the future so inshallah in the future all images are clear for everyone.

Wa Iyyakum! Absolutely, if there’s anything we can do to help clear up any issues or concerns, we will do that in sha Allah.

Thank you for the suggestion regarding adding a function specific to teachers/classes. It’s an interesting idea, and I’ll be sure to forward it over to brother Areeb in sha Allah! But as you said, that would be explored later on in sha Allah.

Regarding the image for “seized”, your thoughts/suggestions are appreciated! To reply, if you take a closer look at the original image, it was actually robbers/criminals running and laying on the floor, and they were being seized by Allah’s (ﷻ) punishment. The meaning of this word in this specific form mostly relates to Allah’s (ﷻ) sudden and severe punishment. There are other ‘normal’ words that directly/indirectly involve a person/authority ‘seizing’ another person (I’ve attached an example of this below).

For this reason, you see in the original image Allah’s (ﷻ) power in the form of lightning doing the seizing. The new image will be similar in that sense, but without the guns

Your suggestion regarding images of 'Aad and Thamud being seized is definitely a good suggestion  The reason this was not done is because there are other images that speak to that story, and to keep it very different and clear, the focus of this image was the actual seizing itself - to show that the seizing happens suddenly and swiftly.

Regardless, we will keep your suggestion in mind and if it appears later on that it works together with all the existing images, we will do that in sha Allah.

I hope this all makes sense.

Jazak Allahu Khair for all your efforts and input. And yes, please do bring forward any images that seem unclear and in sha Allah we will work it out!

Have a wonderful day/evening in sha Allah!

Yes I see the meaning behind the seizing image, though the bags of money threw me off

Also this image I came across might have a different meaning than what it is supposed to mean.

I think the AI thought that this meant the phrase people use in restaurants such as “I’ll have this meal to go / I’ll have a take away” Rather than the actually meaning. I can see how it represents “to go” but I see the phrase for food a bit more in the image. I feel like a mode of transportation or maybe someone taking something away from another person could give a better interpretation for the image.

Assalaamu Alaikum Shayaan,

AI didn’t think it, we specifically set out this detailed scenario for it to generate

Because this AI is not exactly a Muslim AI, most of the images you see were generated by prompting AI exactly what to produce. We give it the exact scenario with the tiniest details in order to produce images that are appropriate, to satisfy the true meaning of the word, and to produce unique images (no repetition).

I can appreciate your perspective. For your understanding, the scenario in this image incorporates both meanings of the word. The man in the image is moving/walking as in ‘going’, and he’s ‘taking away’ with him a basket of fruits.

Your suggestion of someone taking something away from another person is already used to depict other words like ‘to take’. Also, the ‘taking away’ in this word specifically means taking the thing and making it inaccessible, taking it ‘away’, vs. an image of someone just taking something away from someone else.

Using a mode of transportation is also used quite often, however, if this will help we can create a split image: one with a similar image to the existing one (to take away), and next to it an image of a car (to go).

I hope this helps, and have a wonderful rest of the day/night in sha Allah!

Assalaamu Alaikum, Raghda.

Thank you for explaining I did not fully understand the concept.

It is definitely hard to generate the perfect image because of so many perspectives and so many different minds. I feel this everyday, since being left-handed and left-brained makes me perceive things a bit differently than those who are right handed and right brained. I think we are getting closer though.

Jazakallahu Khayr for the hard work you’ve been doing to explain these images!

Assalaamu Alaikum @Shayaan,

Wa Iyyakum! Thank you for your kind words, and of course, I’m happy to help explain wherever I can. Alhamdllilah.

And you’re right, there are so many perspectives and lenses, so it makes it a little challenging, but in sha Allah we will achieve that end goal of having images that are understood by the majority. In sha Allah.

And you’re doing great Alhamdllilah, Allah made us all different for a reason

Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatahu

I have found a small mistake which the AI made while making one of the images.

Everything is good with this image for overpowering, though there is an extra leg for one of the people which might need to be fixed.

Wa Alaikum Assalaam Wa Rahmat Allah Wa Barakatuh @Shayaan,

It will be replaced with another in sha Allah. Jazak Allahu Khair!
