I have sent an email to support with pics but I thought to include the issue here to check if anyone else has experienced it.
The weekly leaderboard currently resets at 1am U.K. time, (GMT + 1) and I was 3rd in the U.K. leaderboard at this time so I stopped doing lessons, Alhamdulillah content with my achievement of being 3rd in the U.K. for the 1st time.
At 1:02 am I received a position alert notification and at 1:04am the leaderboard changed to reflect this.
This was despite the leaderboard now showing 6 days left, (so a new week had started at 1am) as opposed to a few minutes remaining.
Unfortunately the system still allowed points to be accrued past the cut off time for the other user and he overtook my position even though the week had expired.
Wa Alaikum Assalam. Masha’Allah, you’ve understood how the system works! That small 2 to 5-minute delay is there to allow time for redeeming all points (from co-op, heads-up, and leaderboard challenges) before distributing the badges.
I’m sorry, I’m not sure how my understanding of a flaw in the system helps?
Your explanation is not detailed or made clear anywhere and I only learnt of it to my detriment.
If a leaderboard finishes at a certain time, points should not be accrued for that week when the time has elapsed, this is how a user overtook me even though the week had completed. Duo lingo manages to implement this as I’m sure many other apps do.
I’ve sent you an email with screenshots highlighting this flaw. If someone is in the middle of a challenge when the city off time hits, there points should go towards the following week.
It’s unfortunate that you have allowed the other user to benefit from this flaw over me, just because I didn’t know ‘you can still gain points upto a few minutes after the week has finished’.
I understand your frustration and apologize for the confusion regarding the leaderboard reset. The short delay you observed after the stated reset time is intentional, allowing the system to process and consolidate all points, including those from ongoing challenges, before the final leaderboard positions are locked and rewards distributed. This ensures accuracy for all users.
Now that you’re aware of this consolidation period, you can factor it into your strategy for future weeks.
