Few Questions for General Understanding

Assalam alaikum..

I want to ask few questions..

  1. What should be the steps of proper Quran translation learning.. A(First vocabulary, then grammar) or B(first grammar then vocabulary)?
  2. Why I am getting repeated ayahs in practice challenge? It becomes boring plus ethically incorrect to score on same ayahs. A( I had increased the number of new words in regular lesson to check if this give me new ayahs in challenge but of no use) and B( I didn’t participate in practice challenge for 5 days last week, but got same ayahs on 6th day).
  3. How to increase Quran understanding percentage? A(I am only taking regular lesson(without grammar) and (more or less new words just to check its effect on percentage) and B( read surahs to mark familiar words)
  4. What is the purpose of random friend requests? Do we need to take all type of challenges in practice challenge with friends? Or we can also learn with a solo challenge only?
  5. How to score more than a lac as most people do in leaderboards?
  6. How to join different leaderboards?

Wa alikum alsalam,

Here is my take on answering these questions, but I am no expert just someone who have been using Kalaam for more than a year.

  1. I would say that vocabulary comes first, because even though grammar teaches you essential Arabic constructs it is very hard to learn at first. So, it is better to build vocabulary first.
  2. Ayah are based on the words you know. So, the more words you learn, the more ayahs you would see. However, if you are still seeing the same ayats then you might have a bug that you need to report
  3. percentage composes of both grammar and vocab. Going through the Surahs and mark words as familiar can definitely make it go higher if there are a lot of words marked as new/unknown but you actually already know them. But, once you scan enough Surahs then the best way to progress is to just be patient and use the app daily.
  4. I don’t use friends challenge often, so I am not a good person to answer this
  5. some challanges and leaderboards give most points to the top people. So, you can join them and aim to be among the top (but it is difficult)
  6. You can change your location. Alternatively, you can join leaderboards created by your friends (not sure if there are other ways)

JazakAllah kher..

  1. Where and how to report this issue, please guide.. its been more than 2 weeks.. I am usually getting same ayahs , more or less 2 new in between.

I have been stuck in the same situation for over a month. I reported, cried, begged and hoped that it would be fixed but no vain. What did work though for me was to retake the test like the firs time. First I took the grammer test but didn’t change anything. Again I took grammer and vocabulary test then it changed drastically. Now I am flooded with new words I have not learned yet. I went from 97.85 to 99.58 of undertanding. I am not typing unfamiliar for the new words in fear that I go back to that situation. But I am more than happy because it is more challenging and makes me work harder. I get less points for I am concentrating but learning more and more….

I set my daily goal for 30 words just to check if it will change those repeated ayahs, then 20, 10.. no change in either of them, i. e repeated ayahs and understanding percentage..

Yeah I used to mark the mistaken words unfamiliar that I think contributed in stuck percentage.. now I don’t mark them unfamiliar in solo challenges. And when I read surahs I mark known words as familiar(that changed the percentage slightly)..

My question is.. by stating “retaking the test” of grammar and vocabulary you mean that test which we have attempted in start after making our account? N did it change your learned history on app?

Yes, it is the first test we take for evaluation. When I took both grammer and grammer plus vocabulary together, the change was not that much of a difference. I fell back on 97 instead of 97.86 on both tests

Taking the grammer test didn’t change anything at all. I still kept having same ayats repeatedly. But when again I took the grammer and vocabulary, ha! I saw a big change. The app is giving me the whole Quran whether I learned before or not. My percentage of learning grew also. It is crazy, it shows 99.6 percentage of learning history. It is not easy to catch up but it is fun. I prefer this way. It makes me work harder. I don’t get points easily though.

JazakAllah kher for the guidance..

Wa iyyaki.

If you are learning new words daily but still seeing the same ayats then you can make a new post in this forum and only mention the ayah repetition issue. Also, make screenshots of the ayah so the development team are able to fix the problem for you.
